01 — The Pearl东方明珠

Three spheres above the river, one tower of light.

East of the Bund, on the Pudong bank, the Oriental Pearl rises out of the dark — eleven spheres strung along a concrete needle, its largest globe burning rose above the water.

It opened in 1995, when this shore was still fields and cranes. Tonight the river carries its light in long wet streaks, and the skyline behind it has grown three times taller. The Pearl does not change. The city around it will not stop.

Five towers. One hundred years. A single skyline.

Each tower is a story, not a statistic. You cross the river, walk the Bund, and leave with one landmark worth keeping.

Chapter 04 — Afterglow

Afterglow

The Pearl does not go dark. Take the crossing whenever the city gets loud — it is always the same river, and never the same light.
